Legacy: Living a Life that Lasts

Our destiny has been decided since the day we were born. It is just up to us what path to take, what path to avoid. Every move we make, we might get closer to our destiny or we might get far from it. Everything we do has a reason behind it. But there will be the time when we reached the end. When we already know that we did our best in life. That we successfully reach the end and we could actually claim that we are truly living in this world.

Eventually, people will perish and leave this beautiful world of us. There can’t be a person who can live here forever. Some might be forgotten easy and some might not. They are hard to forget because they left us something that can make us easily recall them. They left a legacy. They left a mark to us. They can be a famous icon or just an ordinary person. Through our actions, we create our own legacy.

As for me, I know that I am part of those who are just ordinary: Simple, plain and average. I always thought that I’m still young so I should take things easy. That I should just ignore things that I think are too old for me. Actually, I never really gave thought of leaving a mark up until now. Before, I assumed only famous people can leave a legacy to us. The ones who are popular are the ones remembered by people. But that’s not the case now that I realized something. I realized that I, myself also want to leave a mark.

I want to leave something behind. I want to leave a legacy. A legacy that will surely make people remember me. I want them to think of me as someone who live her life to the fullest. The one who enjoyed the ups and downs of life. The person who faced challenges with bravery. I want to be remembered as the person who I really was: a person full of flaws and no pretensions. I want the people I cherish the most to remember someone like me. Even if I'm not around anymore, these people will continue to recall memories with me. It's like a life that will continue to last.

Of course, I can’t please everybody. I can’t leave everyone a good legacy. Sometimes, they might misunderstand what I’m doing as showing off. People tend to remember our bad points more than our good points. So what we need to do is just to do our best on what we’re doing. Prove them that we’re not a show off.  

Our lives are only short. We don’t know what will happen later, tomorrow, or the next day. One of these days might be the last day of our short lifespan. So we should do our best in our lives. We should work earnestly. Just enjoy the short time together with your loved ones. Have fun in your life. Just remember, you only live once, enjoy it to the fullest.

We make mistakes, we’re humans after all. Some of us may take the wrong path and lost its way to the right one. Some of us may choose the right path and make it in successfully. We know there’s no going back to where we started but we can make a new path and make it back on the track. And when time comes and we end up leaving this world, we knew for sure that we left a legacy. Maybe not to thousands of people, but to a few number of people whom cherished and loved you truthfully.
